〜はいくらですか~ wa ikura desu ka
asking the price
Use 「〜はいくらですか」 to ask how much a named item costs; give the amount with 「円です」.
How it works

Look at the picture: we do not know the price of the bag yet. When shopping, use this question to ask the shop assistant the price.

Say the name of the item, then add 「はいくらですか」. In the picture, 「かばん」 is the item whose price we are asking about.

「いくら」 asks how much something costs. The missing information on the price tag is an amount of money, not a number of items.

To answer, say the amount and add 「円です」. The answer in the picture tells us that the bag costs 3,000 yen.

For a shirt, say 「シャツはいくらですか」. Change the item name; the way to ask the price stays the same.
