MANAB LLC (the "Company") establishes this Privacy Policy (the "Policy") for the handling of personal information and usage data in the JPEDLAB iOS app provided by the Company (the "App").
Article 1 (Personal Information)
"Personal Information" means personal information as defined by Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, including information about a living individual that can identify a specific individual by name, contact information, or other descriptions, and information containing an individual identification code.
Article 2 (Information We Collect)
The App may collect an anonymous JPEDLAB user ID, nickname, learning language, learning goal, Japanese level, learning progress, quiz answers, review items, login timestamps, usage activity, AI practice input, speech practice data, teacher pronunciation feedback audio, target sentences, and replies in order to create an account and provide the service.
To provide paid features, restore purchases, process refunds, and prevent fraud, the Company stores App Store purchase status, transaction identifiers, App Account Token, and entitlement information. The Company may process App Attest key IDs, credential information, and other security information for app security, support request content, optional reply email addresses entered by users for customer support, and technical logs related to devices and communications.
The App does not link to JPEDLAB web accounts and does not provide sign-in through external authentication services such as Google, Microsoft, or GitHub. App Store payments are processed by Apple, and the Company does not directly receive credit card numbers or other payment credentials.
Article 3 (Purposes of Use)
The Company collects and uses information for the following purposes:
・To provide and operate the App, save learning progress, provide review, AI practice, teacher pronunciation feedback, and grant or restore purchase entitlements
・To respond to user inquiries
・To provide necessary communications such as maintenance and important notices
・To prevent and investigate violations of the Terms, unauthorized use, improper entitlement acquisition, refund abuse, and similar conduct
・To improve service quality, investigate failures, and maintain security
・To confirm eligibility for paid services in coordination with Apple App Store payments
・Purposes incidental to the above
Article 4 (AI Features and Audio Data)
AI practice input and related responses are processed to provide the service, manage quality, investigate failures, and support users. They are not used to train AI models in a form that identifies the user.
For teacher pronunciation feedback, the Company collects submitted audio, target sentences, and teacher replies for reply creation, quality control, and customer support. Audio is stored in Cloudflare R2 and is generally deleted 2 weeks after submission. Related records may be retained where necessary for legal compliance, fraud investigation, refund handling, or dispute handling.
Article 5 (Third-Party Sharing and Processors)
Except where permitted by law, the Company does not provide personal information to third parties without user consent. However, the Company may entrust information handling to service providers for cloud hosting, databases, content storage, AI processing, security, support, email delivery, payment-related processing, and similar operations to the extent necessary to achieve the purposes of use. In such cases, the Company requires appropriate management consistent with this Policy and applicable law.
The App does not track users for third-party advertising.
Article 6 (Storage and Security)
The App stores session information in iOS Keychain. The Company takes reasonable security measures to prevent leakage, loss, damage, unauthorized access, and similar risks for the information it handles.
Article 7 (Disclosure, Correction, Deletion, etc.)
Users may request disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, or similar handling of their personal information held by the Company through procedures prescribed by the Company. The Company will respond within a reasonable scope in accordance with law. A fee of 1,000 yen per request may be charged for disclosure.
Article 8 (Account Deletion and Retention)
Users can delete their JPEDLAB iOS account in the App settings. Account deletion removes account information, learning data, settings, and submitted teacher pronunciation feedback audio from the Company's systems. However, records required for law, accounting, payment processing, refund handling, security, fraud prevention, or dispute handling may be retained to the necessary extent.
Deleting the App account or deleting the App does not cancel App Store subscriptions managed by the user's Apple Account. Subscriptions must be managed separately in the App Store account.
Article 9 (Changes to this Policy)
The Company may change this Policy except where legal notice is required. When making important changes, the Company will announce them in the App or on the Company website. The revised Policy becomes effective when posted on the Company website.
