Hello, this is JPEdLab.
Today’s topic is the Tokyo Game Show, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Launched in 1996, the Tokyo Game Show is one of Japan’s leading gaming events.
This year, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, a record 1,138 companies and organizations from 53 countries and regions exhibited.
Participants include not only major game companies but also overseas businesses and indie game developers.
There are new games to try, stage events, cosplay, and areas for families. The event brings together not only people who play games, but also those who make and promote them.
At first, the event was scheduled to run from September 17 to 21, for five days for the first time in its history.
However, the final day was canceled because strong winds from Typhoon No. 25 and disruption to transportation were expected.
Japanese games are spreading around the world as a culture that brings together not only technology, but also characters, music, and stories.
The Tokyo Game Show’s international growth can be seen as a sign of that influence.
What games or characters do you think best represent Japan?
