Hello, everyone.
JPEdLabです。This is JPEdLab.
On Wednesdays, we introduce things that are popular in Japan today.
In autumn, you often see the words “moon viewing” in shops in Japan.
This year, the Mid-Autumn Harvest Moon was on September 25.
But the full moon was on the 27th.
The night of the fifteenth is not always a full moon.
Moon viewing is a Japanese tradition of enjoying the autumn moon.
People also decorate with dumplings and pampas grass.
Today, there are moon-viewing foods, too.
That’s because the yellow part of a round egg looks like the moon.
People put an egg on foods such as thick wheat noodles and hamburgers, and call them moon-viewing dishes.
This year, too, various shops sold these moon-viewing products.
Here’s a question.
Do you think turning a traditional event into a product helps preserve that culture?
Or do you think its true meaning changes?
Are there similar products in your country?
Please write in the comments.
