皆さん、こんにちは。JPEdLabです。Hello, everyone. This is JPEdLab.
水曜日は今の日本で注目されている文化やトレンドを紹介します。On Wednesdays, we introduce culture and trends attracting attention in Japan today.
この秋、日本のお店で月見という言葉を何度見ましたか?How many times have you seen the phrase “moon viewing” in Japanese shops this autumn?
2026年の中秋の名月は9月25日でしたが、満月は2日後の27日。The harvest moon in 2026 was on September 25, but the full moon came two days later, on the 27th.
十五夜が必ず満月とは限りません。The fifteenth night of the lunar month is not always a full moon.
日本の月見は月を眺め、秋の収穫に感謝する行事です。In Japan, moon viewing is an occasion to gaze at the moon and give thanks for the autumn harvest.
団子やススキを供えます。People make offerings of dumplings and pampas grass.
ところが今の日本では月見は見るものだけでなく、食べるものにもなりました。But in Japan today, moon viewing has become something to eat as well as something to watch.
丸い卵を月に見立て、ハンバーガーや麺などに卵を加えて月見と呼びます。A round egg is likened to the moon, and eggs are added to hamburgers, noodles, and other foods, which are then called moon-viewing items.
今年、マクドナルドの月見バーガーは35周年を迎え、KFCやモスバーガーも月見商品を発売しました。This year, McDonald’s Moon Viewing Burger marked its 35th anniversary, and KFC and MOS Burger also released moon-viewing products.
昔からの行事が企業の商品を通して現代の生活に取り入れられているのです。Traditional observances are being incorporated into modern life through companies’ products.
これは日本らしい季節の楽しみ方ですが、本来の意味が薄くなるという見方もできます。This is a distinctly Japanese way to enjoy the season, though one could also say that the original meaning is fading.
ここで皆さんに質問です。Here’s a question for you.
伝統行事が商品や広告で広がることは、文化を受け継ぐことだと思いますか?Do you think traditional observances spreading through products and advertising helps pass culture on?
それとも商業化によって本来の意味が薄れると思いますか?Or do you think commercialization dilutes their original meaning?
あなたの国の例もコメント欄で教えてください。Tell us about an example from your country in the comments.
