Is it possible to prepare for a scholarship before entering university?
The answer is yes.
JASSO offers a reservation program for its Learning Incentive Grant that uses EJU results.
It is for privately financed international students entering undergraduate programs or similar institutions as regular students.
Admission to Japanese language schools and graduate schools is not covered by this reservation program.
Please keep that in mind.
This year's information lists a monthly amount of 48,000 yen, and the grant period varies depending on factors such as when you enroll.
The important point is that a high score alone does not automatically qualify you for the grant.
You must apply when registering for the EJU and go through a selection process.
Even if you are selected as a scholarship recipient, you must report where you will enroll and complete procedures through your school after enrollment; a recommendation is also required.
There are also eligibility conditions related to matters such as financial support from your family.
If you are preparing for your next exam, check the application process and eligibility requirements in the information provided for each test.
This program also gives us a chance to think about how support should be provided.
Should scholarships prioritize academic achievement?
Or should they prioritize students facing financial hardship?
Take a moment to think about it.
