〜と〜~ to ~
joining two nouns
Put 「〜と〜」 between two nouns to name both, such as two hobbies, with one 「です」 at the end.
How it works

Look at the picture. To tell someone about both hobbies, how do you join 「音楽」 and 「読書」?

「と」 means “and.” 「音楽と読書」 names two activities: music and reading.

Put 「と」 between two nouns: noun + と + noun. Keep one name on each side.

Use this in the sentence pattern you know: 「趣味は音楽と読書です。」 Put just one 「です」 at the end.

You can join school subjects this way too: 「国語と数学」 means Japanese language and mathematics.

Try naming two sports: soccer and basketball. Use 「サッカーとバスケットボール」.
