〜を〜として~ o ~ to shite
use or treat as
Use 〜を〜として with two nouns to state the role or purpose assigned to someone or something.
How it works

The same room is now a place for children to play. Use this pattern to say what the room is used as.

「Aを」 marks what is used or treated in a certain way. In the picture, A is the multipurpose room and comes before 「を」.

「Bとして」 gives the use assigned to the object. In the picture, B is a play area and comes before 「として」.

Both A and B are nouns: 多目的室を遊び場として. Follow this with a specific action.

This pattern also says in what role or capacity someone is treated. B gives the role assigned to them.

The room can also host cooking classes or study groups. 「として」 states its use; it does not mean the room itself has changed.
