How it works

Who is carrying the luggage? The employee. 「お持ちします」 describes what the speaker does for the customer.

This is humble language: you speak humbly about your own actions to show respect for the person you are helping.

Remove 「ます」 from 「持ちます」 and put the remaining part into 「お~します」: お持ちします.

When you write something for someone, 「書きます」 also becomes 「お書きします」. You are the one doing the writing.

Add 「ご」 before 「案内します」 to make 「ご案内します」: “I will show you the way.”

First check who performs the action. If the other person carries the luggage, you cannot use 「お持ちします」 to describe their action.

To offer help, you can ask 「荷物をお持ちしましょうか」, “Shall I carry your luggage?” It is a polite offer.

「お/ご」 cannot be swapped freely, and this pattern does not work with every verb. Start by learning these common combinations.
