How it works

What should you keep in mind when applying to volunteer? The picture highlights meeting the deadline as an important point.

「上で」 points out conditions needed to do something. It can also be used when preparing for or considering that action.

Use a verb in its dictionary form before it, as in 「応募する上で」. This first introduces the action you intend to do.

Here, the focus is on what to keep in mind when doing the action. It does not mean doing another action only after finishing it.

In the examples, writing your name is required to apply, while being on time is important when attending an event.
