〜はともかく~wa tomokaku
Wa tomokaku (〜はともかく) means “set aside and focus”.
Leaving aside the differences from one's own country, university students are similar in that they feel anxious about the future.
Use 「〜はともかく」 to set one topic aside and turn to the point you want to emphasize.
In the course
How it works

Set grades aside for now and look at university life: which side does the speaker want to emphasize?

Set the first topic aside, then turn to the second, which the speaker wants to emphasize or prioritize now.

Put a noun before it, such as 「成績」. To refer to a situation, you can use 「給料が減ること」.

「はともかく」 and 「はともかくとして」 mean the same thing; you can leave out 「として」.

The example only sets grades aside for now; it does not say they are poor. The focus is on enjoying university life.
